For the past four and a half months, I have had my address out on the internet as an invitation for anyone to send me their blades so they can take a step forward towards getting better.
In those four and a half months, I have received these:
- 71 blades
- 4 bobby pins
- 3 paper clips
- 2 safety pins
- 1 needle
- 1 letter opener
- 1 lighter
I can’t really say much in response to this, because honestly I don’t think there are words to describe how proud and how humbled I am.
These people are fighters, and the day they sent those away, it was another step towards winning the war.

“Mental illness is a myth.”
To give you an idea of how ignorant people are, and how taboo discussion of mental illness remains, here are some screenshots I took just now.

i literally cannot reblog this enough because there are people who genuinely feel this way about people with mental illnesses and it creates a real source of shame and frustration for those with it because not only do they have to fight against themselves, they also have to fight against really harmful stereotypes trying to shame them for having something they CANNOT CONTROL
And yet, all the naysayers and deniers respond to depression with, “All you you have to do is decide to not be depressed anymore. Just stop thinking about it.”
Which would imply complete control over it.
Things like this make me sick to my stomach. How can anyone think that mental illness is a myth or even a sin. Depressed people are selfish, ha really that’s beyond the truth, I suffer from depression and I’m far from selfish. This would be why suicide rates have been up, since people feel shame or are scared to to admit that they have an illness.
